Jake Te Hiwi was raised in Dunedin and attended Otago Boys' High School.
He was named in the 2022 New Zealand Under 20's side and debuted for Otago in the National Provinvial Competition in the same year.
Te Hiwi made his Super Rugby debut in 2023 against the Chiefs as an injury replacement but suffered an ankle injury which prematurely ended his season. Following on from his debut in 2023 Te Hiwi entered his first fulltime Super Rugby contract in 2024 and added another six caps to his Super Rugby career.
While injuries have kept Te Hiwi from a consistent run of appearances and he will be hoping for an injury free 2025 to continue building on the momentum he was gaining near the end of the 2024 Super Rugby season.
