Timoci Tavatavanawai was born and raised in Fiji and played for the Fiji National Under 20 rugby team. He then moved to New Zealand, where in 2021 he made his debut for Tasman in the NPC 

In the same year, he joined both the Crusaders and Highlanders' wider training squad as injury cover. 

In 2022, Tavatavanawai was signed for Moana Pasifika in their inaugural year in the Super Rugby Pacific competition. 

In 2025, Tavatavanawai had a breakthrough season for the Highlanders, earning multiple accolades including MVP, Back of the Year, Fan Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and the prestigious Highlander Man Award. His pace, skill, and relentless work rate made him a constant threat in the backline and a central figure in the team’s performances. He was awarded at the international level, making his debut for the All Blacks against France. 

In 2026, Timoci took it to another level. The Highlanders captain led from the front with another stellar year. He was once again rewarded with All Black selection. 

Heading into 2027, Tavatavanawai will look to convert his individual performances into team wins. The skipper will be eager to bring his team to the playoffs in 2027.
