Timoci Tavatavanawai was born and raised in Fiji and played for the Fiji National Under 20 rugby team. He then moved to New Zealand, where in 2021 he made his debut for Tasman in the NPC
In the same year, he joined both the Crusaders and Highlanders' wider training squad as injury cover.
In 2022, Tavatavanawai was signed for Moana Pasifika in their inaugural year in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
In 2025, Tavatavanawai had a breakthrough season for the Highlanders, earning multiple accolades including MVP, Back of the Year, Fan Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and the prestigious Highlander Man Award. His pace, skill, and relentless work rate made him a constant threat in the backline and a central figure in the team’s performances.
Heading into 2026, Tavatavanawai will be looking to build on his outstanding season and continue to have a major impact for the Highlanders.
