Hugh Renton was called into the Highlanders squad in 2021 as an injury replacement and after impressive displays during the pre-season was added to the full squad and has been a consistent presence in the team ever since. 

An impressive runner and physical player, Hugh is a staple at the back of the scrum for the Highlanders.

In 2025, Renton returned to the Highlanders after a challenging 2024 season, demonstrating his resilience and commitment. Despite battling a persistent injury that limited his appearances, he continued to bring his trademark physicality and leadership to the field.

Heading into 2026, Renton will be excited to make an impact and to re-establish himself as a cornerstone in the Highlanders' forward pack, contributing consistently throughout the season.

Such a proud region and club with a lot of the same characteristics and traits I was brought up with on the farm, so to connect and play for the club is a privilege.
