Tongan-born Folau impressed with his Hawkes Bay season in the 2021 NPC season and picked up the Duane Monkley Medal for the Most Valuable Player. He has a great intuitive feel for the game, creating the ability to spark his team on attack. Although not a big man, he really enjoys the physical parts of the game and this is evident in the way he approaches defence.
Folau has since picked up two caps for the All Blacks after debuting in the second test of the Steinlager Series against Ireland in 2022 and in 2023 picked up another two caps for the All Blacks XV.
In 2024 Folau played his 50th game for the Highlanders and heads into the 2025 season as the incumbent halfback after strong Super Rugby and NPC seasons.
