Folau impressed with his Hawkes Bay season in the 2021 Mitre 10 Cup and picked up the Duane Monkley Medal for the Most Valuable Player. He has a great intuitive feel for the game, creating the ability to spark his team on attack. Although not a big man, he really enjoys the physical parts of the game and this is evident in the way he approaches defence.

Folau has since picked up 2 caps for the All Blacks after debuting in the second test of the Steinlager Series against Ireland in 2022. 

In 2024 Folau takes over as the number 1 halfback option following the departure of Club legend Aaron Smith.
