Highlanders Re-Sign Te Kamaka Howden and Veveni Lasaqa

11 June 2025

The Highlanders have announced the re-signing of two exciting young talents, Te Kamaka Howden and Veveni Lasaqa, securing their futures with the club through 2026 and 2027.

A powerful and versatile loose forward, Te Kamaka Howden has been a standout since joining the squad, impressing with his athleticism, work rate, and physical presence. At just 24 years old, Howden has already shown strong leadership qualities and is seen as a key figure in the Highlanders' forward pack moving forward.

“Te Kamaka has been immense for us this season — tough, driven, and a real competitor,” said Highlanders Head Coach Jamie Joseph. “We’re trying to build a team that can grow together, and Te Kamaka is a big part of that vision.”

Electric loose forward Veveni Lasaqa has also recommitted to the Highlanders through to the end of 2027. He was a valuable acquisition for the club’s loose forwards group this season, his direct, energetic play caught the eye of many and he was voted the 2025 Rookie of the year at the recent Highlanders Annual Awards evening.

“Veveni brings energy, excitement and a real edge to our loose forwards,” said Joseph. “He’s only scratched the surface of what he can become — we’re thrilled he’s backing himself and backing us.”

Highlanders CEO, Roger Clark, welcomed the announcements, reinforcing the club’s commitment to developing and retaining young talent.

“These signings reflect our belief in the future of the Highlanders,” Clark said. “Te Kamaka and Veveni are not just talented players — they’re great young men with the mindset we value. This is another strong step forward for our squad.”

The re-signings follow a strategic period of squad retention as the Highlanders continue to build a competitive and cohesive group under the leadership of Jamie Joseph and the coaching team.
