Highlanders 2024 Schools Camp Attendees Announced

The Highlanders Schools squad will assemble for a 5-day camp hosted at John McGlashan College from the 9^th to the 13^th of October, a total of 46 players have been selected from over the Highlanders region by eight local coaches from Otago, Southland and North Otago. 

The purpose of the camp is to develop young talent in the Highlanders and provide them with an aspirational rugby experience. During the camp players will learn tactical and technical aspects of the game as well getting a better understanding of high-performance principles.   

Southland Boys High School has a strong representation, and the remainder of the squad is spread across Kings High School, John McGlashan College, Otago Boys High School, Waitaki Boys High School, Mt Aspiring College, South Otago High Schools, St Kevins College, Māruawai College , Wakatipu High School, Dunstan High School, Menzies College.

Unavailable for the camp due to national selection are:

Thomas Jennings (SBHS) NZ Secondary Schools

Jayden Broome (Muruawai College) NZ Maori U18

Isaac Turoa (OBHS) NZ Maori U18

While attending the camp following games for the NZ Barbarians U18 are:

Coaches for the week are drawn from throughout the Highlanders region including Scott Eade (Southland), Josh Phipps (North Otago) Scott Manson (Otago), Regan Turoa (Otago) Marty McKenzie (Southland) Will Hola (Otago) and Regan Wilson (Southland) will be supported by a strength and conditioning trainer, nutritionist, mental skills trainer and sports analysts.

The 5-day camp culminates with an internal game where the on-field skills and learnings from the camp will be able to be applied in a game setting. (Saturday 12 October 1pm Tahuna Park). 

“These camps are a great culmination of the rugby year for some of our young and talented schoolboy players drawn from all parts of our region. It’s a good opportunity for them to test themselves in a different rugby environment away from the Schools First XVs”, said Highlanders Talent Development Manager, Kane Jury.
