Sean Withy joined the 2022 squad after graduating from the John Jones Steel High Performance Programme. The 2021 U20 Super Rugby Player of the Tournament continues to show enormous potential and gained valuable experience in his rookie season as well as a cap against eventual Championship winners, the Crusaders.
The young loose forward was born and bred in Southland but moved up to Dunedin to attend the University of Otago.
In 2025, his consistency and leadership on and off the field were recognised with a call-up to the All Blacks XV at the end of the year.
In 2026, Withy continued to impress with his relentless work rate and defensive grit, establishing himself as a reliable option in the Highlanders loose forward trio. He also brought up 50 appearances for the club, a signifier of his consistent performances in recent years.
Heading into 2027, Sean will look to be an experienced leader of the squad and continue to be a reliable option in the loose forwards.
