Hato Pāora College graduate Nikora Broughton joined the Highlanders for the 2023 season following a standout U20 tournament in 2022 captaining the undefeated NZ Barbarians team.
Broughton was awarded the 2023 Highlanders Rookie of the year and backed up with another strong season in 2024, where he played a part in all but one game during the season. He was rewarded for a great season with selection in the 2024 Māori All Blacks team that travelled to Japan.
Broughton continued to impress throughout the 2025 and 2026 seasons,
showcasing his high work rate and physical presence across the park. His consistent performances have been recognised by becoming a regular in the Māori All Blacks squad.
Nikora brought up 50 games for Bay of Plenty in 2026, which is a testament to his consistency and development as a player.
Coming into 2027, Nikora will join the loose forwards unit as another handy option. He will continue pushing for a starting spot in the back row.
