Hato Pāora College graduate Nikora Broughton joined the Highlanders for the 2023 season following a stand out U20 tournament in 2022 captaining the undefeated NZ Barbarians team.

Broughton was awarded the 2023 Highlanders Rookie of the year and backed up with another strong season in 2024 where he played a part in all but one game during the season. He was rewarded for a great season with selection in the 2024 Māori All Blacks team that travelled to Japan. 

Broughton will be targeting a consistent starting spot in 2025.
