Ethan de Groot rose through the Southland Rugby Academy and age group teams before making his Super Rugby debut in 2020. While he was included in the Highlander's team that played the NSW Waratahs in a pre-season game in Alexandra in February 2019, he didn't make his Super Rugby debut until the end of 2020 against the Chiefs.
Following an impressive 2021 season Ethan went on to make his debut for the All Blacks during the Steinlager Test Series in July that year and was again selected for the All Blacks in 2022 and has begun to see regular game time in the black jersey.
The boy from Gore plays his Mitre 10 Rugby for the Southland Stags and will be able to bring a wealth of experience back to Southland when he's not assembled for Super Rugby or travelling with All Blacks.
