Super Round Melbourne Bound Again
Super Rugby Pacific’s biggest weekend is locked to come back to Melbourne for the third time in 2024, with Super Round Melbourne set to fire up AAMI Park in the first week of March. Hot off the heels of a packed 83,944 crowd filling the MCG in the Bledisloe Cup — the largest Australian rugby crowd in 20 years — TEG Rugby Live today announces that the Super Round will return to Victoria. From Friday 1 March to Sunday 3 March 2024, Melbourne will again showcase itself as a hub of entertainment and sport with the third edition set to delight rugby fans all across the state, as well as visitors from across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. With an increase in fans attending Super Round in 2023, up from the inaugural 2022, it is expected that numbers will continue to grow as rugby fans continue to get behind this special weekend. The opening night will see an all-Australian clash with the hometown Rebels facing off against the Force, right after the Highlanders battle the Blues to officially kick off the third instalment of the popular round. On the Saturday, fans will get to see crowd favourites the Fijian Drua and Moana Pasifika clash, before back-to-back Super Rugby Pacific Champions, the Crusaders, play the Waratahs in what shapes to be a headline act. While on Sunday, the final doubleheader sees last year’s runners up the Chiefs face the Brumbies, followed by the Hurricanes tackling the Reds. Off the field, Super Round will again host a variety of fan focused activity, from live music to special food and drink offerings, sponsor activations, and access to players from the Super Rugby Pacific sides for selfies, autographs and clinics, giving attendees a unique chance to meet the best of the best in rugby. TEG Group CEO Geoff Jones said “We are delighted to be working with the Victorian Government, New Zealand Rugby, Rugby Australia, SANZAAR and all the Super Rugby teams to bring Super Round back to Melbourne. Support for rugby continues to grow in Melbourne, highlighted by the increasing crowds for Super Round and the incredible crowd last weekend for the Bledisloe Cup clash. We are confident that this Super Round is going to be the biggest and best one yet!” Super Rugby Pacific Tournament Director Matt Barlow said “We are thrilled to share the exciting news of Super Round's return to Melbourne in 2024, marking the third edition of this sensational event. Working in collaboration with TEG and our wonderful partners, we are determined to make Super Round even more extraordinary. Once again, Super Round will bring together the world's best rugby players in one city over one action-packed weekend. Our aim is to cater to a broader audience and warmly welcome new fans of the game, encouraging them to come and experience the thrill and passion of rugby firsthand. After witnessing an incredible turnout at the recent Bledisloe Cup in Melbourne and with the anticipation building for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, we are excited to return to Melbourne and can’t wait for what Super Round 2024 has in store.” SCHEDULE: ROUND 2 OF SUPER RUGBY PACFIC 2024 SEASON
