26 October 2026
An unexpected text from Jamie Joseph. A place in the wider training squad. Then a Super Rugby debut in round one.
Lucas Casey reflects on his journey from Dunedin club rugby to Otago and the Highlanders, sharing how he made the most of his opportunity.
From wondering whether Jamie’s message was a prank to running out in front of the Highlanders faithful, Lucas talks about stepping into professional rugby, feeling welcomed by the squad and the lessons he learned along the way.
Plus, his advice for players entering the wider training group: work hard, back yourself and be ready when your chance comes.
