The representatives of the Australian capital, the Brumbies, were formed as a franchise for the first Super 12 in 1996, being created under the auspices of the then Australian Capital Territory Rugby Union. Despite damning predictions to the contrary from various rugby men in New Zealand and South Africa, Australia’s ‘third’ team proved everything but the tournament ‘bunnies’ they were expected to be.
