Sam Gilbert made the move down south to seek more game time at Super Rugby level in 2020. The versatile back made his Super Rugby debut that season against the Chiefs in the opening game of Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Sam had a solid 2022 season which culminated in a game where he started at first five and kicked 100% (8 conversions).

He had a successful 2023 season which landed him a spot in the 2023 All Blacks XV Squad. 

2024 was also a great year for Gilbert as he continued to display his goal-kicking capabilities.
