Ethan de Groot rose through the Southland Rugby Academy and age group teams before making his Super Rugby debut in 2020. While he was included in the Highlanders team that played the NSW Waratahs in a pre-season game in Alexandra in February 2019, he didn't make his Super Rugby debut until the end of 2020 against the Chiefs.

After an impressive 2021 season, Ethan made his All Blacks debut during the Steinlager Test Series in July that year, was selected again in 2022, and has since become a regular in the black jersey.

The boy from Gore plays NPC Rugby for the Southland Stags and will bring a wealth of experience to the Highlanders in 2027.

It's my dream job playing the game I love and getting to spend time with my mates on and off the field

The drive to be considered world-class and one of the greats, and to be able to look back on my career and be proud of what I achieved.
