Limited Edition Jersey Launched to Honour Fijian Connections
16 April 2026
The Highlanders have today launched a limited edition jersey that will be worn when the Highlanders play the Fijian Drua in Fiji on Saturday 2nd May. This will be only the second time the Highlanders and Fijian Drua have met in Fiji.
Over the years, many proud Fijian players — such as Manasa Bari, Aisea Tuilevu, Iliesa Tanivula, Vula Maimuri, Seru Rabeni, Vilimoni Delasau, Maritino Nemani, Viliame Waqaseduadua, Patrick Osborne, Waisake Naholo, Tevita Nabura, Mosese Dawai, Jona Nareki, Vilimoni Koroi, Jacob Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens, Timoci Tavatavanawai and Veveni Lasaqa have worn the Highlanders colours, leaving their mark not only on the field but also in the legacy and spirit of the team.
This jersey, named "The bond between us - Na veiwekani ena keda maliwa" was designed by Andrew Williams [Nukuni (Ono-i-Lau) with maternal links to Welagi (Taveuni)] and celebrates those enduring bonds of unity, brotherhood and connection that stretch across the Pacific. To show respect and gratitude, the jersey incorporates traditional national colours of Fiji, symbolising the deep relationship and history between the Highlanders and Fiji.
This jersey is a tribute to the players, the culture and the people who have given so much to the Highlanders story and the game of rugby over the past 30-years. It's our way of saying Vinaka - Thank you.
As the Fijian saying goes: "Au se gone ni Yavusa; au dau sureti ki veiqu" - "I am a child of the tribe; I belong to those to whom I am connected." This saying reflects the heart of what this jersey represents: belonging, respect and the unbroken bonds between the Highlanders and Fiji. It carries the spirit of interconnectedness and kinship that define Fijian Identity — reminding us that true strength comes not from standing alone, but from standing together as one.
These limited edition game worn jerseys from round 12 will be auctioned with the proceeds going to the Salvation Army to assist with their work in Fiji.
Highlanders CEO, Roger Clark, was proud to launch the limited edition jersey today, adding:
"This jersey represents far more than a one-off moment on the field and it is a powerful symbol of the deep and enduring connection between the Highlanders and Fiji. Fijian players have played a defining role in shaping our club's identity over the past 30 years.
Their talent, passion and cultural influence have left an indelible mark on our organisation, and this jersey is a tribute to that legacy. We are also proud that the match-worn jerseys will give back, with proceeds supporting the Salvation Army’s work in Fiji — ensuring this initiative delivers meaningful impact beyond the game.
Vinaka vakalevu to everyone who has been part of this journey with us."
