Malakai Fekitoa burst on to the scene as an 18-year-old at the national Sevens in 2011 where he was selected by Gordon Tietjens as Player of the Tournament. In 2012, Fekitoa debuted for Auckland and played every match of the provincial campaign, scoring three tries. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year - proving himself a ruthless defender as well as a strong runner with the ability to create space for himself and others. He signed with the Highlanders in 2014, making an immediate impression with his evasive and powerful running adding excitement and potency to the team's backline. He was selected to make his debut for the All Blacks against England in June and followed that up with selection for The Rugby Championship and end of year tour and re-selection in 2015 (including the rugby world cup winning sqaud) finishing the international season with 13 Test caps and a four tries to his name. He was awarded the SKY Television Fans' Try of the Year for his memorable solo effort against the Sharks in the 2014 Super Rugby Qualifier in Durban and played an important part of the 2015 Championship winning team playing 16 of the 19 games that season.
