Mathew Rhys Patchell is a Welsh international who is coming into the Highlanders as an experienced fly-half for the 2024 season.

Patchell was born in Llandough, Penarth, Wales, and attended Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf School. 

Patchell has represented Wales on 22 occasions between 2013 and 2023. He was selected and played in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and kicked three penalties and a drop kick to beat Australia in the pool play 29-25.
