Mitch Dunshea was born in Hamilton but moved to Christchurch with his family at a young age. 

He was selected into the Crusaders squad in 2016 after an impressive 2015 season with the New Zealand Under 20 team. 2015 also saw Dunshea selected into the Canterbury provincial team, where he made an impressive start to his career. 

In 2020 Mitch was called into the All Blacks squad as injury cover and travelled to Australia for the Tri-Nations Tournament.
