Jason Emery debuted for the Highlanders as a 19-year-old in 2013 which came off the back of a blistering Junior World Championship campaign the year before, earning him New Zealand Rugby's Age Grade Player of the Year Award. He has continued to impress in the Manawatu Turbos' midfield since making his provincial debut against Wellington in 2012 and enjoyed a solid performances with the Highlanders in 2014 and 2015. Emery joined the Maori All Blacks for the first time in 2014 and toured with them to Japan, scoring two strong tries in a 61-21 triumph in Kobe. Jason Emery in his fourth year with the Highlanders started some early games in the 2016 season before injury sidelined him. He made his way back into the team through the reserves bench later on in the season and will be looking for a big 2017 season.
