Born in Fiji, Waisake Naholo first came to prominence as an 18-year-old schoolboy who scored six tries for Wanganui in 2009. By 2011 he had signed for Taranaki, making the New Zealand U20 team and playing five games for the New Zealand Sevens team the following year. He was signed by the Blues in 2013, debuting against the Bulls in Auckland, but made just two appearances. Naholo played for the high-flying Taranaki team in the 2014 ITM Cup, his form catching the eye of Highlander coaches and earning him a place in the team for 2015. And as they say, the rest is history! After cementing his spot on the wing early in the season he soon started to rack up the tries and ended up claiming the top number of tries scored in a single season by a Highlanders (13) and earned himself a spot in the All Blacks team debuting against Argentina in July. Naholo had a lengthy injury spell in 2016 but finished the season strongly and was selected for the All Blacks to play in the Rugby Champinship and end of year tour.
