Patelesio Tomkinson represented New Zealand Schools in 2014, scoring a try and being named MVP in their 34-24 win over Australia. He was also a member of the New Zealand Under-20 side which finished 5th in the 2016 World Rugby Under 20 Championship in England, scoring 2 tries in 5 matches.
An impressive debut season for Otago in provincial rugby in 2015 he was named as a member of the Highlanders wider training group ahead of the 2016 Super Rugby season. In 2017, he was promoted to a full contract and debuted against the Brumbies that season.
The utility back has since established himself at Super Rugby level after getting consistent game time over the past few seasons. Although Sio played most of his rugby out of position in 2021, he managed to perform to a high standard playing in all but one game and scoring four tries.
2022 will be a big season for Tomkinson as he looks to secure a permanent starting spot in the matchday 23.
Known for his hard-tackling and silky skills, he will again lead an exciting Otago backline and continue to build his game during the Bunnings NPC.
