Jermaine Ainsley returned to his home region at the start of 2021 after playing in Australia since 2015. With 60 Super Rugby caps to his name, the explosive front-rower has added to the experience of the Highlanders Squad. The Otago Boys High School ex-pupil played for the Wallabies three times in 2018.
Ainsley suffered a major high ankle sprain which caused him to miss the entire 2021 Super Rugby Campaign. However, he will return back to the field in Round 5 of the Bunnings NPC for his new province, Otago.
His father, Joe Mcdonnell, also played for the Highlanders when the club was founded back in 1996.
