First-five eighth, Marty Banks, returns to Super Rugby in 2019 after an 18-month hiatus with Italian Club, Bennetton Rugby Treviso, and Japanese Club, NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes. Originally not named in the 2017 Highlanders squad, Banks, was released from his Italian club to join the squad late as injury cover and ammassed 120-points during the season, kicking the winning goal in the Highlanders historic win over British and Irish Lions.
Banks, a firm fan-favourite, has played 36 games for the Highlanders and is consistently on form with the boot. His experience will be welcomed in the team for 2019 where he will be accompanied by two promising young first-fives, Josh Ioane and Bryn Gatland.
Banks has 44 Super Rugby caps and has played 39 games for the Highlanders, including against the British and Irish Lions in 2017.
