Originally from Auckland, Josh Ioane travelled to the deep south in 2014 to play Premier rugby for Southern RFC. Ioane made progress in the Otago Academy Development before playing age-grade Otago rugby, as well as for the Samoan U-20 side. He joined the Highlanders in 2018 and developed his game rapidly during those 12 months, his performances for Otago in the Mitre 10 Championship were a good example of how far he has come in a short space of time and he definitely has the ability to influence the game at the next level.
After an outstanding 2019 Super Rugby season Josh was awarded a test cap against Tonga in a warm up World Cup fixture. The young first five will look to build on this valuable international exposure to ensure he can direct the Highlanders to a winning way in 2020.
