Born and raised in the heart of Highlanders country in Balclutha, Matt Faddes played his first provincial rugby match for Otago in the 2011 ITM Cup against North Harbour and in 2013, he earnt a place in the All Blacks Sevens team, playing in three tournaments throughout the season. In 2016 Faddes joined the Highlanders and had a breakout year, he scored 10 tries in 16 games, as well as a hat-trick against the Kings and won 2016 Rookie of the Year.
Matt had a strong 2018 season with the Otago team in the Mitre 10 Cup competition and we are looking forward to seeing him back to his best and adding his strengths to our game in 2019. A smart footy player who works hard off the ball to find opportunities for himself and the team. His wide skillset means that he is a genuine option in the midfield, wing or fullback.
