The Wildlife Hospital, Dunedin
The Highlanders are immensely proud supporters of The Wildlife Hospital, Dunedin. This facility is the only one of its kind, in the South Island of New Zealand. Native birds, penguins, seals and sea lions are all treated at the hospital which is fantastic in rehabilitating animals back into the wild.

Little Landers Literature Programme - The Dunedin City Of Literature
Together with The Dunedin City Of Literature we went out to six low-decile primary schoold in the Dunedin area and invited them to be a part of the pilot year for the Little Landers Literature programme designed to encourage young people to read more. Our players were directly involved with the children; reading to them, listening to the children read books and poems (some they had written themselves!) and at the end of Term 2 presenting their graduation certificates.
The pilot programme was incredibly well received and feedback from the schools involved noted the change in attitudes towards reading from the children involved, with some children carrying over their newly found confidence in reading to other parts of their learning and life in general.
The Highlanders feel privilaged to be a part of this programme and look forward to rolling it out again in 2019 with the Dunedin City of Literature.
